With considerable success experienced with the sale of a variety of internet businesses over recent years, both large and small, warehouse based and home based, EM&F were pleased to take instructions recently in the sale of a thriving e-commerce business operating in the Health & Fitness Sector. The business had been established by our client some 10 years earlier and had grown steadily into a thriving and profitable concern. However, with other interests and the business becoming more demanding due its success, the owner felt the time was right to seek advice about the possibility of selling the business.

EM&F's valuation consultant visited the owner at the business premises to gain a thorough understanding of the business, assessed an appropriate value and discussed the marketing strategy. Having gone from strength to strength since its inception, the business had a proven track record, growing in both turnover and profitability year on year, but still remained a relatively easily managed operation that could suit new entrants to e-commerce or an ideal bolt on for an existing operator. Retailing a range of clothing and accessories associated with one particular area of the Health & Fitness sector, we also considered that the business offered great scope to expand into other disciplines and grow the business still further.

Formal instructions were taken and a comprehensive set of sales particulars were prepared for approval by our client prior to launching onto the open market. The nature of these particulars was key to being able to promote the potential sale of the business and maximise exposure to potential buyers, whilst at the same time ensuring discretion for our client with minimal impact on the day to day running of the business.

Upon launching the business it was immediately obvious that e-commerce remains in strong demand from potential buyers and a good number of enquires were quickly received. The local EM&F office, based in Hertfordshire and covering neighbouring counties Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Essex, was certainly kept busy liaising with the Vendor and potential buyers advising on various aspects of the business resulting in several appointments for a formal viewings being arranged.

Our client was pleased in a little over six weeks to have agreed a price close to the asking; being an e-commerce and fully relocatable business there were no leases or property involved and the transaction was relatively straight forward completing some two months later.

This is just one example of an e-commerce business successfully sold by EM&F, demand remains strong and with our experience and knowledge of this rapidly growing sector EM&F are ideally placed to assist any potential vendors.
